Nissan Motor Corporation later named one of their sport utility vehicles after the race series and was the primary sponsor for a number of years. The company’s parted ways in 2006.

What are the main categories in XTERRA?
There are two primary divisions in XTERRA: Age Groupers and Professional. Professional Athletes compete for cash prizes and sponsorship. The Age Groupers are created for those who still want to compete but are not professional athletes. Both divisions compete in a point series, where athletes accumulate points by placing in the top 15 of each race in which they compete.
